Anwar Asad is an exciting and dynamic belly dance performer with over 10 years experience in making events fun and unforgettable! She has performed at events across the country, from restaurants, nightclubs, weddings and birthdays to corpotrate events, galas, art openings and benefits with hundreds of guests.

As a performer and teacher, Anwar Asad merges Egyptian and American technique, incorporating finger cymbals, veil, double veil, floor work, cane, sword, wings of Isis, shamadan, and fire into her dance, as well as Turkish and Greek styles.

Anwar Asad is a graduate of Oberlin College and Conservatory of Music with a B.A. in Biology and a B. Mus. in Opera, where she developed a strong backgroud in classical music, musicology, Eurythmics movement technique, music history, theory and rhythm. She has also studied yoga since 1997, and is knowledgeable in postures, breath, alignment, and guided meditation, which she incorporates into her teaching of bellydance.

Anwar recently earned her Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine (ND) at Bastyr University in Seattle, where she has furthered her study of yoga, meditation, nutrition, physiology, and naturopathic medicine. In her dance education, she has studied with the top dancers on the scene today, including Riskallah Riyadh, Astryd Farah deMichele, Yousry and Nourhan Sharif, Tamalyn Dallal, Nadira of Seattle, Morocco, Hadia, Karim Nagi, Amel Tafsout, Rania Renee, and Kay Hardy Campbell.

Anwar's passion is teaching bellydance, and she has taught this beautiful art since 2003 at colleges and universities, yoga centers, wellness centers, and latin dance studios throughout the USA. She is currently teaching classes and lessons in the greater Seattle, Washington area. For more information, please see Instruction page.

Additionally, Anwar acted as assistant director, member, and costume designer for the Aicha Dance Troupe for three years, and was costumer and a member of the Kadira Noor Dance Ensemble for two years. She continues to develop her costuming skills by creating fashionable bellydance wear, from steampunk and tribal, to Egyptian and gothic (see Couture page for more info and pics!).
